SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently released its first national rankings for the 2012-13 season, and the Kenyon College Lords begin this season where they left off last year. Based on their runner-up showing at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship and success during the fall schedule, the Lords were slotted as the No. 2 team in the country in the poll.
The No. 2 ranking is the highest Kenyon has ever received to begin a season. Previously, the Lords had not appeared higher than seventh in the first national poll.
Based on the results from competition this fall, Kenyon was also well represented in the individual rankings. Senior
Paul Burgin was tabbed the No. 4 singles player in the country after placing second in the ITA Central Region Championship in September and third at the United States Tennis Association/ITA Small College Championship in October.
The pairing of sophomore
Wade Heerboth and freshman
Robert Turlington turned up fifth in the doubles rankings. The duo won the ITA Central Region Championship before finishing fifth at the USTA/ITA Small College Championship. Their No. 5 ranking is the highest for a doubles team in Kenyon history.
