CHICAGO, Ill. – If the Kenyon College volleyball team keeps this pace, it will be one tired bunch by the end of the season. Friday afternoon the Ladies arrived at North Park University and played their first two matches of the 2012 schedule. Both matches went the maximum five sets, but both also ended in Kenyon losses.
As part of the two-day North Park Classic, Kenyon first took on the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets. The end result was a marathon 26-28, 29-27, 25-18, 29-31, 6-16 loss for the Ladies. Junior
Mary Jo Scott (La Cañada, CA, La Cañada) did everything she could to keep her team in contention, as she rang up 21 kills, 16 digs, and five service aces. Sophomore
Hannah Shank (San Rafael, CA, Marin Academy) piled up a whopping 55 assists and junior
Bella Stachowski (State College, PA, State College) added 22 digs.
In their second match of the Classic, the Ladies looked to make short work of the Ripon College Red Hawks. Kenyon was victorious in the first and second sets, but Ripon rallied to take the match by a final of 20-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-9. Once again, Scott was all over the court for the Ladies. She chalked up 14 kills, nine digs, and four more aces. Shank dished out another 31 assists and also matched Stachowski's total of 11 digs.
Kenyon (0-2) will go into day two of the North Park Classic with Saint Mary's College and Indiana University-Northwest on the slate. Those matches are scheduled to be played at 12 pm and 2 pm, respectively.
