OBERLIN, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's cross country team came out of their bye week and roared into the Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College. The Ladies placed second among North Coast Athletic Conference schools despite being without one of its top runners for the meet.
Jenna Willett paced the Ladies towards a 11th place overall finish out of 34 teams.
Willett was without her running mate, Natalie Plick, on Saturday morning but still managed to post a 22:16.2 finish time on the 6,000-meter course. Her time was good for 13th overall and was just three seconds off from putting herself in the top 10 finishers.
Coming in behind Willett was junior Lizzie Halper with Kenyon's final sub 23-minute finish time. Halper crossed the line in 22:55.1 to finish inside the top-50 out of 284 racers. Not far behind her were teammates Kerry Strader (23:23.4), Mollie O'Leary (23:30.1), and Abby Arace (23:43.0).
Kenyon accumulated 303 total team points, helping the Ladies claim 11th as a team. They were third among NCAC teams, finishing behind fifth-place Oberlin and 10th-place Allegheny College. New York University took the top team spot with 72 points and two of the top five individual finishers. NYU's Emily Cousens (21:54.5) won the race by one second over Case Western Reserve University's Kelsey Aamoth.
The Inter-Regional Rumble leads into the NCAC Championship in two weeks, hosted by Allegheny College. The Ladies will have the next week off to recover and then head to Meadville, Pa. on Nov. 2 to improve upon last year's second-place finish.
