Brett Williams finishes seventh in NCAC decathlon

DELAWARE, Ohio  – Three members of the Kenyon College men's track and field team participated in the first leg of the North Coast Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship. Brett Williams' seventh-place finish in the decathlon earned the Lords two points that will carry over into next week's competition.

Of the 10 events comprising the decathlon, Williams placed inside the top-five in five different events. The senior took top honors in the shot put, hitting 11.90 meters with his second of three tosses. He continued his field event success with a third-place finish in the discus throw, topping out at 29.68 meters with his final toss. He also finished fourth in the javelin throw (44.40m) and high jump (1.77m), followed by a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (5:02.65).

Williams accumulated 5,443 points with his performances in all the events, good for seventh place in a field of 11 participants. His finish awards him two points that will be added to the Lords' team total in next week's NCAC Track & Field Championships. Matt Hunter of Ohio Wesleyan University placed first overall with 6,277 points.

Jordan Wehner and Alex Benthem de Grave also participated in the decathlon, finishing 10th and 11th, respectively.

Kenyon will host the remainder of the 2013 NCAC Track & Field Championships and will be held at Wilder Track on May 3-4. Friday's first event will kick off at 12 p.m. Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
