GAMBIER, Ohio – The 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships concluded on Saturday evening and featured two more Kenyon College records among the madness at Wilder Track. A total of 11 track records were broken or tied by day's end while the Lords placed seventh overall at the championship.
Carlo Gagliardo had his legs in each of the two College records that fell. After snapping the 100- and 200-meter dash records in yesterday's preliminary races, he returned to the track and set a new standard in the 200. He placed second in the race but topped his own previous best by crossing the line in 21.96 seconds, also earning the Lords eight points in the process. He also placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.08.
The Lords' 4x100 relay team also surpassed the previous best time in the program's history behind a third-place finish in the event. The team of Jake Fishbein, Noah Winters, Brett Williams, and Gagliardo bettered the previous best time by 0.18 seconds set earlier this season, timing out at 42.62.
The Lords' seventh-place team finish was backed up by 51 points. Wabash College successfully defended its title from a season ago, running away with the championship by scoring 275.5 points. Ohio Wesleyan University placed second with 148.5 points followed by Wittenberg University (74), Oberlin College (68), Denison University (62), Allegheny College (59), Kenyon, DePauw (49), and The College of Wooster (31).
Kenyon had notable performances both on the track and in the field events during day-two action. Brett Williams turned in a fifth-place finish in the javelin toss, hitting 51.86 meters and earning the Lords four points. Ulises Arbelo earned a point with his eighth-place finish (1:59.39) in the 800-meter run, while Nat Fox (4:03.74), Willy Friedlander (4:04.81), and Sean Smith (4:07.16) finished fifth, seventh, and eighth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay team consisting or Arbelo, Friedlander, Williams, and Noah Winters turned in a time of 3:26.53, good for sixth place and three team points.
