CHESTERFIELD, England – Jack Detchon, one of the most successful men's soccer coaches in Kenyon College history, passed away peacefully at home after an unexpected and brief illness. He was 78 and survived by his wife Vicky, daughters Nancy and Laura, as well as grandchildren George, Ellie and Tom.
Detchon
Hired to take over the Kenyon soccer program in 1994, Detchon guided the Lords through four seasons and compiled an overall record of 63-11-3. His .838 win percentage remains the best among all Kenyon coaches who spent at least four seasons with the program. He steered the Lords to a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships and four consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III tournament appearances.
In his third season at Kenyon, Detchon orchestrated the most successful showing ever by a Kenyon soccer team, as the Lords posted an 18-3-1 record and finished national runner-up to The College of New Jersey after a grueling, 2-1, quadruple overtime loss in the championship game.
