ITA RANKINGS
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies tennis team checked in at No. 24 on the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III national ranking, which was released this week. It's the highest mark for the Ladies since the 2006 squad finished the year ranked 25th.
Under the direction of coach
Scott Thielke, the 2015-16 Ladies achieved a 15-10 record, which included a few wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
During the ITA Midwest Invitational in April, Kenyon notched wins over No. 27 Hope and No. 16 DePauw. Those victories sparked a seven-match winning streak which saw the team advance all the way to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament final.
In addition to the top-25 team finish, sophomore
Diana Aboubakare was listed among the national singles ranking. The Orange, California native came in as the No. 29-ranked player in the nation and was the highest-rated player from the NCAC. She finished the season with a 17-10 singles record and was the conference's Player of the Year and ITA's Player to Watch in the Central Region. It's the highest individual ranking since 2007, when Ashley Kriwinsky was ranked 27th.
The Ladies will return several key players who contributed this season to next year's roster including Aboubakare,
Grace Winslow,
Alyssa Moreau,
Jenna Murray,
Maggie Sweeney,
Annie Reiner and
Katherine McCauley.
