Postgraduate Scholarship.

GAMBIER, Ohio --Former Lords soccer player Sam Clougher is the latest Kenyon College student-athlete to be awarded a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship. The College's impressive list of recipients is now up to 76 student-athletes, a total that ranks second among all Division III institutions.

Clougher, a native of Dublin, Ireland, is a double major in history and economics. He became just the third Lords men's soccer player to be awarded the one-time, non-renewable grant of $7,500 to help finance graduate school education.

Away from the classroom, Clougher cemented himself as one of the all-time great goalkeepers in Kenyon history. He was a part of a senior class that posted a combined, four-year, record of 73-12-6 and won three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) tournament titles, as well as two NCAC regular-season titles.

The teams he played with advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament all four years. The 2015 and 2016 teams advanced all the way to the tournament's quarterfinal round.

In goal, Clougher recorded 45 career shutouts, the most in program history. He also ranks top-ten at Kenyon in career goals against average (0.63), save percentage (.7993) and total saves (227). Additionally, he set program single-season record for shutouts (15 in 2014) and goals against average (0.31 in 2014).

After graduation, Clougher plans on taking a year off from study and then, with the help of postgraduate scholarship, resume academic work in the fall of 2018.

Created in 1964, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program was launched to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
