CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Kenyon College track and field member
Tanner Orr became the Lords' first student-athlete to ever win the long jump event at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.
His jump of 21 feet, 11 ¾ inches not only clinched first place, it also broke the previous Kenyon record of 21 feet, 10 ¼ inches set by Perry Thompson in 1971.
That performance notched 10 points for the Lords, who finished with 24 by meet's end and a ninth-place conference standing.
Jordan Potter secured the team's next-best mark. During the shot put event, he threw 46 feet, 6 ¾ inches which slotted him third and tallied Kenyon six more points.
The Lords added two more points the rest of the way. In the 1-mile run,
Tommy Johnson claimed eighth with a time of 4:25.27. The quartet of
Kevin Towle,
Ar'Reon Watson,
Qiyam Stewart and Orr added another eighth-place finish in the 4x200 meter relay crossing the finish line in 1:36.21.
Other marks included
Kyle Rose's 14th-place spot in the 5,000-meter run and
Vincent Lewis finishing in 15th in the same race.
At the conclusion of the championship meet, Potter and both Tanner and
Colton Orr earned All-NCAC honors for their efforts.
Kenyon will now take a little break before opening its outdoor season on March 16-17 at the UNC-Charlotte 49ers Classic.
