Earned two letters in football, but excelled throughout his collegiate baseball career. On the ball diamond, he was named a District IV All-American in 1954 and 1955. Three times he was named to the all-conference team and three times he was voted team MVP. He completed his career with College records for batting average in a season (.458) and in a career (.366). After graduation, he signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers and wound up playing for minor league teams in Syracuse, Jamestown, and Charlestown.
