In 1979, Kathleen Singer became Kenyon's first woman to qualify for the national championship meet and finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke in Division III competition. That marked her as the Ladies' first NCAA All-American, a feat she would accomplish four more times by the end of her career. Singer was a 14-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion and helped Kenyon claim the OAC's team title in each of her four seasons in Gambier.
