Pedro Monteiro swam his way to six individual and four relay national championships. He earned 18 career NCAA All-America certificates. In his specialty, the 200-yard butterfly, there was none better. He won three of his titles in the event and still holds the NCAA Division III record, which he set with a time of 1:45.19 in 1997. Prior to Kenyon's 1996-97 swimming season, Monteiro became a world-ranked butterflier and earned a place on Brazil's nine-man team that competed at the 1997 World Championships. He was named the NCAA's Division III Swimmer of the Year in 1995 and the NCAC Swimmer of the Year in 1998.
