As one of the first great swimmers in Lords history, Robert Tanner helped put Kenyon College swimming on the map. A breaststroke specialist, Tanner's crowning swim came at the 1940 NCAA Championship at Yale University, where he placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke event. He won six Ohio Athletic Conference individual titles while leading the Lords to four-consecutive conference team championships.
