GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team claimed a total of eight event wins, including a pair from both senior
Hannah Saiz and freshman
Katie Kaestner, but that wasn't enough to propel the Ladies past host Denison University. The Big Red finished the Saturday morning meet strongly and edged Kenyon, 149.5-147.5
Saiz made a clean sweep of the butterfly events, winning the 200 at 2:04.04 and the 100 at 56.91. Both those times cleared the NCAA 'B' cut standards and both were pool records in Denison's newly unveiled Trumbull Aquatic Center.
Before Saiz made her mark, Kaestner helped Kenyon open the meet with a first-place time of 1:46.97 in the 200-yard medley relay. She later went on to claim victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.81) and second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.18).
With those two fueling a fast start, the Ladies won five of the first six events to take a 67-45 lead over Denison. Freshman
Mariah Williamson helped out with a winning time of 10:25.39 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while sophomore
Celia Oberholzer took the 100-yard backstroke after stopping the clock at 58.63. She later slotted second in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:09.80 effort.
Denison closed out the meet winning six of the last seven events. The Big Red needed a win in the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, and got it by edging Kenyon's relay team by just over a second.
Other Kenyon event wins came from junior
Hillary Yarosh and freshman
Maria Zarka Yarosh was first to the wall in the 100-yard freestyle (52.55) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.95). Zarka won the one-meter diving competition (282.38) and was runner-up in the three-meter event (273.53).
