MEADVILLE, Pa. – In an upset Saturday at the Wise Center, the Kenyon College women's basketball team lost a North Coast Athletic Conference contest to the Allegheny College Gators, 49-47. The loss snapped Kenyon's win streak at three games and dropped the Ladies' records to 14-5 overall and 8-2 within the conference.

Kenyon got off to a good start, building early leads of 6-0 and 11-4. Allegheny (11-8, 6-4 NCAC) slowly chipped away at its deficit until it was able to take its first lead of the game on a bucket from Rachel Vigliotti. That score came with 58 seconds left in the half and lifted the Gators to a 26-25 edge at halftime.

The two teams traded the lead a couple times in the second half, but neither squad led by more than five points. With the scored tied 43-43, Kenyon's Maggie Boelter connected on a pair of free throws. At the 7:38 mark, Maureen Hirt added a field goal and Kenyon owned a 47-43 advantage.

That, however, was all the scoring Kenyon could muster. The Ladies missed their final seven shots and were shut down over that final seven-minute span. The Gators offense didn't fare much better down the stretch, but it did enough to score six points in the final 1:41 to pull out the win.

Hirt and Boelter ended up scoring eight and nine points, respectively. It was senior Kayla Ernst who led the Ladies with 15 points. Ernst also yanked down 11 rebounds to notch her fourth double-double of the season.

Allegheny was paced by Daryl Ford, who scored 13. Marina Scarantino tallied a dozen points off the Allegheny bench, which outscored the Kenyon bench 18-2.

The road ahead doesn't get any easier for the Ladies, who host DePauw University on Tuesday. DePauw is 19-0, currently ranked No. 1 in nation polls, and boasts a defensive scoring average (44.8 ppg) that ranks fourth among all NCAA Division III teams.
