CLEVELAND, Ohio – Case Western Reserve University hosted a slew of swimmers and divers in its annual quad meet that included the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team, Saturday afternoon. In a meet that included head-to-head competition between the Ladies, Case Western, Gannon University, and Grove City College, Kenyon dominated the field with wins over all three by wide margins. Of the 16 events held, Kenyon pulled away wins in 12 of those and swept all the relay and diving events in the process.
Rachel Flinn had a signature day for the Ladies by collecting two wins and one second-place finish over the course of the meet. She kicked off all the action by serving as the opening leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Flinn joined Laura Duncan, Erika Jensen, and Jenner McLeod and put forth a time of 1:47.83 to defeat the next-nearest team by nearly seven seconds.
Flinn also recorded a win in the 200-yard backstroke by swimming eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She capped off her day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (58.52) only to be edged out by teammate Celia Oberholzer by .23 seconds.
Duncan matched Flinn's performance by taking the top of podium in the 100-yard breaststroke after touching the wall in 1:06.91. She also claimed second place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.08).
McLeod was part of two winning relay teams and took home gold in one individual event. In addition to serving as the anchor in the 200-yard medley relay, she also kicked off for the 200-yard freestyle team and swam the fastest leg in the team's win. Her individual win came in the 50-yard freestyle when she out touched Gannon's Morgan Lydic by 0.02 seconds, timing out at 24.45.
Maria Zarka won both the one- and three-meter diving events, claiming each by at least 30 points. Her larger victory came in the three-meter dive where she turned in a set of dives that totaled a score of 282.89, 53.04 better than second-place finisher Carolyn Eckendorf of Grove City. In the one-meter, Zarka once again held off Eckendorf for first place, this time by scoring 261.05 points.
Ellie Crawford also won multiple events, taking titles in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.81) and 400-yard individual medley (4:42.45). Additional individual wins came from Dru Selden in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.38) and Emma Stewart-Bates in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:42.51).
When all the scores were accumulated, Kenyon came out on top in all three duals. The Ladies outscored Grove City, 202-96, host Case Western by a count of 200-99, and Gannon, 198-89. After Kenyon concludes their stay at the TYR Invitational, they will regroup for the Total Performance Sports Camps Invitational, held at the James Steen Aquatic Center.
