Kenyon moves into first place with 6-1 win over Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – Kenyon College won its sixth straight contest as it claimed a 6-1 victory over Earlham College Sunday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey match at Darrell Beane Stadium.

It is the Ladies' 13th victory of the season, tying the same number of wins attained a year ago. The win also moves Kenyon into first place in the NCAC standings after Denison University's 4-0 loss to DePauw University today.

The first half was all Kenyon as four different Ladies tallied goals.

Weezie Foster scored in the seventh minute to break a scoreless tie and ten minutes later Maddie Breschi tallied her 10th goal of the year pushing the Ladies' lead to 2-0.

Kenyon's third goal of the half came from Rachel Hall in the 24th minute on an assist from Julie Freedman. For Hall, it was her 41st career goal, which ties her for first place in the record books with former Lady Carrie Moore (1995-1998).

Shannon Hart capped off Kenyon's first-half offensive prowess scoring in the 28th minute.

The Ladies out-shot the Quakers 12-2 in the opening half.

In the second half, Kenyon freshman Dani Gorton scored her first two collegiate goals for the visitors' final tallies.

Sarah Speroff recorded two saves before Claire O'Donnell-McCarthy closed out the final 18 minutes of the match and notched three stops.

Kenyon out-shot Earlham 19-8 and held an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.

The Ladies return to action October 18 when they visit Wittenberg University for an 11 a.m. NCAC contest.
