NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Luther College (9-1) powered to a 75-48 victory over Kenyon College (3-7) Tuesday night in a non-conference basketball game at the Trojan Fieldhouse on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University. The game was a part of the Basketball Destinations Music City Classic.
The Norse's depth, three-point shooting, and aggressive defense proved to be too much for the Ladies as Luther pushed its winning streak to six games.
Kylie Romeo led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting while hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Meagan Koepnick and Taylor Elton each tallied 11 points. Twenty different players saw time on the court for the Norse. Luther was also extremely effective from three-point range (11-24; 45.8%).
Kenyon was led by
Bailey Dominguez who matched her season high with 14 points. She hit a quartet of three-point shots and corralled seven rebounds.
Lauren Kriete added nine points, four points, and three assists while
Griffin Tullis and
Shelby Gray chipped in with six points.
It was a tight game early on as Kenyon found itself down 12-9 after a Tullis jumper nearly five minutes into the first half. However, over the next five minutes, the Norse hit a 12-2 run to seize control of the game. Luther led 24-11 after that stretch and never looked back.
Romeo led Luther with 12 points in the first half. The Norse forced 17 Ladies turnovers as well which led to 16 points. They led 42-19 at the break.
The closest the Ladies got the rest of the way came after a pair of Gray free throws with 1:29 left which brought the score to 70-46.
Luther forced 27 Kenyon turnovers which were converted into 26 points. They also held a 22-14 points in the paint advantage.
Kenyon returns to action January 3, 2015 when they host Ohio Wesleyan University (5-5) at 1 p.m. in a North Coast Athletic Conference game.
