GAMBIER, Ohio—The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team rattled off 11 straight event wins Saturday and cruised to a 145-84 victory over the Wittenberg University Tigers in the team's final dual meet of the season. The Tigers did manage to win one event and avoided being swept at the Steen Aquatic Center.
Kenyon's streak started with the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. The Ladies' quartet of
Haley Townsend,
Katie Kaestner,
Natalie Parker, and
Megan Morris raced to victory in 1:48.52. Townsend, Kaestner, and Morris later joined
Hannah Lobb to close out the meet with a winning time of 1:38.89 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In between those events, Kaestner captured first place on her own in the 100-yard butterfly. She completed that event in 59.93.
In distance events,
Mariah Williamson and
Alexa Korsberg took care of business for the Ladies. Williamson won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:20.59 and Korsberg won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.65.
Sophomore
Maria Zarka was Kenyon's only other multiple-event winner. She swept the diving competitions by posting winning scores of 278.25 on the one-meter board and 267.23 on the three-meter board.
Zarka's victories were surround by additional Kenyon wins from
Ellie Crawford,
Jenner McLeod, and
Celia Oberholzer. Crawford claimed gold in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.62, McLeod was fastest in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.29, and Oberholzer continued her domination in the backstroke by taking the 100-yard race in 57.59.
Considering the team celebrated Senior Day prior to the meet, it was only appropriate that a couple of seniors rounded out the Kenyon wins.
Hillary Yarosh did so by taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.94 and
Mary Bank followed up with a winning time of 24.93 in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Ladies will not compete next week and instead will prepare for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which will start Wednesday, February 12 in Granville, Ohio.
