Gillian Blackwell was responsible for both Ladies goals Saturday afternoon as Kenyon got back in the
win column with a 2-0 victory over The College of Wooster.

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Ladies soccer team ended its two-game skid thanks to a pair of first-period goals on Saturday afternoon.

The Ladies topped The College of Wooster, 2-0, on the road to raise their record to 8-5 on the season, 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Fighting Scots, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped, fell to 9-3-1, 2-1 in conference.

The Ladies scored on their first real scoring chance of the match. In the 10th minute, Gillian Blackwell headed a ball to Emma Klug in the box. Klug's shot went inside the upper right corner of the goal to give Kenyon the early 1-0 lead. It was Klug's third goal of the season, and Blackwell's second assist.

Fourteen minutes later, Blackwell put a goal on the board herself to double the Ladies' lead. Sandwiched between two defenders at the top of the box, Blackwell fired a shot inside the right post to make the score 2-0. It was Blackwell's fourth goal in 2015.

Wooster had control early in the match, keeping the ball in the attack zone and earning a pair of corner kicks in the first five minutes. The tide turned when Wooster's Lauren Hancher was issued a yellow card, and Kenyon became the more aggressive team on offense.

As both teams became more aggressive, the fouls began to pile up. The teams were called for 16 fouls combined in the first half.

The Fighting Scots went to a more offensive lineup in the second half, which yielded 11 shots. However, only four were on goal, and all were saved by the Ladies' Alissa Poolpol, who finished with five saves in the match. It was Poolpol's sixth shutout of the season, lowering her GAA to 0.69.

Blackwell led the Ladies with a pair of shots on goal while Klug had two shots. Claudia Brown, Maggie Smith and Brianna Maggard each had one shot.

Wooster's two corners early in the first half were the only ones in the match.

The victory was Kenyon's third straight over the Scots.

The Ladies, who had a seven-game winning streak before losing to Case Western Reserve University on Sept. 29, will look to get a new winning streak going when they travel to Hiram on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
