GAMBIER, Ohio – Oberlin College (10-5, 4-4 NCAC) slipped by the Kenyon College Ladies (9-5, 4-4 NCAC) 13-11 Saturday afternoon in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse contest at Mavec Field. The defeat eliminated Kenyon from postseason conference tournament consideration while pushing Oberlin into the NCAC's tourney next week.
The Yeowomen started the game well gaining a 3-0 lead about 10 minutes into the first half after a Grace Barlow goal.
Kenyon's slow start didn't last though as the team fought back to tie the game.
Kelley Russell tallied the Ladies' first goal with 18:47 left in the half. A little over six minutes later, freshman sensation
Kat Englert notched her 60th score of the year and tied the game at 4.
The sizzling stretch for the Ladies continued when
Allie McLane gave her team a 5-4 lead when she found the back of the pipes with 10:19 left.
Kenyon took a 6-5 lead into the break after another goal from Englert.
In the second half, Oberlin's Sara Phister scored at the19:27 mark which brought the count to 7-7.
But the Ladies responded right back and went back up 9-7 after Englert and
Caroline Shipman tallied a pair of scores with just under 17 minutes left in the game.
Kenyon maintained a two-goal lead (10-8) after another Shipman goal with 10:08 remaining. That lead, however, didn't hold the rest of the contest.
Oberlin tied the game at 10-10 when Hannah Heinke-Green scored with 7:51 left. Phister put the Yeowomen up for good following a man-up, free-position goal with 6:11 left.
The Ladies drew closer (12-11) following another Englert score at the 3:43 mark, but they didn't find the back of the pipes after that.
Englert tallied five goals to lead the Ladies while McLane and Shipman each scored twice. Englert totaled 64 goals this season, the third-best total in program history.
Kenyon concludes its season with a 9-5 record.
