ANDERSON, Ind. --- The Kenyon College women's soccer team scored two early goals to give it a lead it would not relinquish, going on to a 3-1 victory over the Anderson Ravens at the Anderson University soccer field in a nonconference showdown Saturday evening.

Junior Maggie Smith scored two goals for the Ladies, including the eventual game-winner in the 15th minute of the first half. Smith directed the ball past an Anderson defender and scored unassisted. She added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, with an assist to Claudia Brown.

The Kenyon defense allowed just two shots on goal for the entire match. Ladies' senior goalkeeper Alissa Poolpol had one save.

Kenyon had eight shots on goal. Smith led the Ladies with three shots on goal, while Gillian Blackwell had two. Meredith Rogers and Marie Laube each had one shot on goal.

The Ladies began the match with an offensive assault on the Anderson goal. Blackwell had a shot that was saved by Anderson goalkeeper Allyson Saylor, then directed two corner kicks, all in the first two minutes of play. Brown finally finished the flurry by scoring in the ninth minute on a penalty kick following an Anderson foul in the box.

The Ravens responded just four minutes later when Chloe Hassett sent a pass through the Kenyon defense to Hailey Embree, who scored to tie the match at 1-1.

Smith's goal two minutes later made the score 2-1.

Anderson came close to tying the match in the 81st minute, when Hassett took a free kick after a Kenyon foul near the box. The shot was saved by Poolpol.

Kenyon outshot Anderson overall, 12-5, and led in corner kicks, 5-2.

The Ladies, who have gone 2-0 and scored five goals in the last two matches, look to continue their streak Sunday in another nonconference match at Manchester University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
