DELAWARE, Ohio – Three different players scored goals as the Kenyon Ladies field hockey team swept the season series against Ohio Wesleyan University for the fourth straight year on Sunday in a 3-1 victory against the fellow North Coast Athletic Conference team. It was the fifth straight win for Kenyon who moved their record to 11-4 and got to within a half game of conference leader of DePauw.
A day after being held to just two shots, the Ladies intensified their offensive efforts against OWU as they held a 22-7 advantage.
Both teams had a couple good looks about halfway into the opening stanza before junior
Kelsey Trulik broke the scoreless tie.
With less than four minutes until half, Trulik drove up the middle, got by her defender and shot into the right side for her second goal of the season.
That 1-0 score remained the same until the team's second-leading scorer
Katelyn Hutchinson put Kenyon up 2-0. A little over 10 minutes into the second half, Hutchinson got a pass and navigated to the right side and fired into the pipes for her ninth goal.
Ohio Wesleyan fought back to cut the deficit in half at the 54:51 mark when Candace Chanelli sent a pass from the right end line and watched as Ashley Barno finished the attempt.
After that though, the home team found just one more shot on goal.
Weezie Foster put the game out of reach with less than three minutes left as she charged into the circle and fired for her team-leading tenth goal of the year.
In goal,
Sarah Speroff came up with three saves.
Due up next for Kenyon is a home date with first-place DePauw University on October 22 at 11 a.m.
Katelyn Hutchinson had what turned out to be the game-winning goal on Sunday as the Ladies defeated Ohio Wesleyan. The victory moved
Kenyon a half game back of NCAC leader DePauw who will come to Gambier on Oct. 22 for the Ladies next game.
