Archimalo, frontcourt dominate against Hiram

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College knocked off Hiram College 65-52 Tuesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game at Tomsich Arena. The victory propelled the Ladies (18-8) into the tourney semifinals for the first time in two years. It also moved Kenyon's record over the Terriers to 4-0 in the NCAC tourney.

Ifeoma Archimalo matched her season-high with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. The sophomore also grabbed seven rebounds and collected three steals. First-year Sharon Hull added nine points off the bench while Sidney Cera contributed eight. Additionally, Hannah O'Day tallied seven points while three more scored five.

By game's end, the Ladies had a 26-16 advantage in the paint, outscored Hiram's bench 31-15 and held a 17-4 second-chance points advantage.

First-quarter action was close early on before a 17-4 run by the Ladies moved their lead to 23-9 by the end of the period. With a slim one-point lead, Kenyon hit seven of its next 10 shots while holding Hiram to 1-of-4 shooting and forcing four turnovers. O'Day tallied six points during the stretch while Bussema added four.

In the second, the Terriers didn't make up any ground really, as the closest they got in the period was nine points (23-14) after a Kaylee Shockley three-ball with 8:03 left. Kenyon went back up double digits on the next possession and maintained that lead the rest of the half.

Heading into the second half, Hiram began to find some traction offensively with the help of the three-point shot. Dana Perrotta drilled a long ball with 2:23 left which brought the score to 44-38. The Terriers pulled to within five (44-39) after a free throw but Kenyon closed the period with a 5-0 run.

The fourth quarter saw the visitors pull to within five again (49-44) after an Erica Johnson free throw. But that was the closest they'd get the rest of the way. Kenyon went up 10 again (56-46) at the 6:14 mark and never lost the double-digit lead again.

Next up for the Ladies is trip to Granville to face DePauw University in a semifinal game February 26 starting at 6 p.m.
