Lords rally over Frostburg State, 3-2

PITTSBURGH, Penn. – Tony Amolo picked an opportune time to score his first goal of the season as the Kenyon College men's soccer team rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit and edged Frostburg State University 3-2 in a non-conference match at Carnegie Mellon University's soccer field. The victory kept the eighth-ranked Lords undefeated at 4-0.

For the first time all season, Kenyon found itself trailing in the opening half, albeit on an own goal which came during the 22nd minute when the Lords attempted to head away a cross that deflected into the net.

But as has been the case in recent seasons, the Lords fought back. At the 30-minute mark, a foul was called against Frostburg State and that brought junior Oliver Wynn up to take the free kick. He buried it and tied the match at 1-1.

The 1-1 score remained for just a few seconds though before the Bobcats went up again. Exactly 28 ticks after Wynn's goal, Josh McRobie got FSU's second score as he one-touched a pass from Matt Morris across the box and into the net.

Needing to turn up their offense a few notches, the Lords did so emphatically in the second half. Kenyon out-shot Frostburg State 15-3 and found the goals required for victory.

Fourteen minutes into the second stanza, senior Jordan Glassman scored off a cross from Amolo to tie the game at 2. It was his first goal of the season.

Then with 12 minutes remaining, Amolo struck. The Lagos, Nigeria native beat his defender and fired into the center of the net.

After Amolo's go-ahead score, the Bobcats got just one look with 15 seconds left from Ernie Williams but his shot sailed high.

Next up for the Lords is their home opener on Sept. 14 against Muskingum University starting at 5 p.m.
