CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The No. 3 ranked (NSCAA) Kenyon College men's soccer team earned its biggest win of the early season on Saturday as they escaped Thomas More College with a 1-0 road win which improved the team's record to 6-0.
In a highly physical match, there were a combined 35 fouls called along with five yellow cards and one red card issued.
Thomas More got its offense threatening early as a pair of shots from Ethan Smith, one blocked and a header that went wide, gave the home team some confidence. However, Kenyon's quick-footed defense allowed just one shot the remainder of the first half.
The Lords followed with a few sequences of their own in the ninth minute as
Oliver Wynn's attempt sailed wide left and later
Woo Jeon put one on target that was saved by Thomas More's Jeff Paulin.
A scoreless tie finally came to an end though in the 43rd minute. Sophomore
Brice Koval scored his third goal of the year on an assist from
David Anderson which gave the Lords a 1-0 lead.
Kenyon kept the pressure up on Thomas More to start the second half as they took five shots within the first six minutes.
Despite nothing coming through though on the offensive end, the Lords' back line did their job against the Saints attack.
Three TMC shots in the second half never came on goal to keeper
Sam Clougher who recorded his fifth shutout of the year.
The Lords' next match comes September 20 when they host 22nd-ranked Centre College at 4 p.m. Like Kenyon, Centre will enter the match with an undefeated record (5-0).
Forward Brice Koval scored the match's lone goal as Kenyon won at Thomas More 1-0 on Saturday. The victory improved
the Lords' early-season record to 6-0.
