GAMBIER, Ohio – A corner from
Greg McNeer in double overtime came into the Wabash College box and deflected off a Little Giants player into the net giving Kenyon College a 2-1 win in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Mavec Field on Saturday.
The victory, the Lords' fourth in a row, moved the team's record to 8-2-2 and kept the Lords in first place of the NCAC with a 3-0 mark.
Kenyon looked good right from the start against Wabash who came into the game with a six-match winning streak. McNeer, navigating just in front of the sideline benches, crossed a deep pass to
Henry Myers two minutes in but Little Giants keeper Demitri Lee saved the shot attempt.
The Lords added four more attempts, including on-goal attempts from Myers and
Woo Jeon, before Wabash found some offensive traction.
At the 27th minute, Little Giants forward Francisco Trejo fired from just outside the 18-yard box but his shot sailed just wide left of the Kenyon goal.
Seven minutes later, Wabash broke the scoreless tie. After a Kenyon foul, Abdoulie Waggeh fired a free kick from about 30 yards out into the left corner of the net. That 1-0 score remained until halftime.
In the second half, Jeon connected with Myers for the equalizer. At 61:12, Jeon threw in the ball from the Lords' sideline and it bounced to Myers near the left post. Myers did the rest for his team-leading 10th goal of the year.
The score stayed at 1-1 all the way into the second overtime. In the second extra session, the corner kick that came Kenyon's way was a direct result of Myers attacking down the right end line.
Next up for Kenyon is a quick trip to The College of Wooster (6-6, 1-2 NCAC) on October 10 at 4 p.m.
