Kenyon routs Oberlin, completes season sweep

OBERLIN, Ohio – For the second time this season, the Kenyon College field hockey team produced a lopsided victory against Oberlin College. Just a little more than a month ago, the Ladies tallied a 7-0 home win over the Yeowomen. Sunday, at Oberlin, the Ladies chalked up a 6-0 victory to complete the season sweep.

The Ladies, who are now 10-2 overall and 7-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference action, outshot the Yeowomen 36-2 in Sunday's game and a combined 71-2 in the teams' two meetings this season. The win was Kenyon's 11th straight over Oberlin, dating back to the 2012 season and it also extended a remarkable streak in which the Ladies have not lost back-to-back games since the start of the 2013 season, a streak that covers 94 consecutive games.

Senior Katelyn Hutchinson scored the game's first goal, which held up as the game-winner. She also tacked on an assist during the second half of play. That ran her season-long totals to team-bests of nine goals and 22 points. For her career, she now ranks tied for sixth place all-time in program history with 32 goals and ranks fifth with 75 points.

Hutchinson's goal was the only one of the first half, despite 17 shots for the Kenyon offense. Oberlin goalkeeper Kennedy Kline kept things close by making 11 saves in the period.

Kline made another seven saves in the second half, but she could no longer contain the Kenyon offense, which erupted for five goals in a span of 28 minutes. Weezie Foster, another Kenyon senior, got things rolling for the Ladies with a goal just 62 seconds into the second half of play.

About 12 minutes later, Hutchinson assisted on Shannon Hart's third goal of the season. Just 72 seconds after that, freshman Gigi Guenther joined the party with her fourth goal of the campaign. Sophomore Hannah Sklar and freshman Tara Shetty accounted for the other two Ladies' goals.

Behind a sound defense, Kenyon senior goalkeeper Sarah Speroff only had to make one save to notch her fourth shutout of the season and Kenyon-record 29th shutout of her career.
