GAMBIER, Ohio --
Lane Davis tied her career high with 16 points as the Kenyon Ladies overcame some sluggishness and pulled away from The College of Wooster 61-43 on Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference game. The victory was Kenyon's 18th, tying its season total from a year ago.
Â
Davis was near perfect from the field (8-of-10) while also pulling down eight rebounds.
Â
Freshman
Paige Matijasich provided a lift off the bench as she scored 11 points, all in the second half. Senior
Miranda Diesz was able to contribute 12 points, four rebounds and three steals while
Griffin Tullis and
Ifeoma Archimalo combined to tally 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Â
About three minutes into the game, a Davis layup put the home team up 6-2. But back-to-back three-pointers from Kylie Orr gave the Fighting Scots their first lead at 8-6 with 4:16 left. Kenyon closed the first though with four straight points to take a slim 12-8 lead into the second.
Â
Kenyon opened the second quarter with an 11-4 run and got its first double-digit lead (23-12) at the 5:07 mark after
Sharon Hull scored a layup from
Jessica Gerber. Wooster.
Â
That margin didn't remain though as Wooster got the game to within one. A few free throws and 4-of-5 shooting – compared to 1-of-8 shooting from the Ladies – allowed the visitors to get the deficit to 27-26 after a tip-in from Christina Vukovich.
Â
Nearly halfway through the third, Wooster retook the lead at 35-34 following an Akwia Tilton jumper.
Â
But on the next possession for Kenyon, Matijasich drained a three-ball from the left wing pushing the Ladies back up, 37-35. They never lost the lead after that.
Â
The Ladies took a 42-37 lead into the final quarter and never let up as they ballooned their advantage to as many as 20 points on two occasions. Kenyon's defense turned it up a notch in the fourth as well holding the visitors to 1-of-13 shooting.
Â
Next up for Kenyon is its regular-season finale at Hiram College on February 18 at 1 p.m.
