GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior
Campbell Fee picked an opportune time to score her first career goal as the Kenyon College women's soccer team defeated John Carroll University 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday. It was a much-needed victory for the Ladies who improved to 2-4-1 with conference play looming.
A little over four minutes into the extra session, Fee fought for a deflected ball, and from the top of the 18-yard box, booted a shot into the right corner of the net.
That goal seemed a long time coming for the Ladies in the match. In the first half, Kenyon out-shot JCU 7-2 including a few that were well hit.
Kiele Anderson got the team's first on-goal look in the 17th minute and
Morgan Engmann followed a little bit later but Blue Streaks keeper Rhianna Guarnera saved both attempts.
JCU almost broke the scoreless tie in the 30th minute. Bailey Fischer was along the right side and nearly connected into the left upper-corner of the net in what would have been a highlight-reel goal.
The Ladies had two more quality looks. Fee hit the crossbar at 31:51 and with about two minutes left, a through ball from
Alyssa Sugar to
Fallon Raviol resulted in another good attempt.
After halftime, John Carroll picked up its offensive pace. Jaclyn Audino's shot five minutes in was saved by the Kenyon defense. Later, Katie O'Donnell got a quality look but sophomore keeper
Jillian Countey denied her.
Caroline McNeer tallied the Ladies' best look in the second half at 78:46 but Guarnera tipped it away.
Then in overtime, Fee delivered and helped Kenyon get its second win of the season. Next up for the Ladies is their North Coast Athletic Conference opener on September 23 against Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. at Mavec Field.
