Ladies win again, remain unbeaten in NCAC play

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon field hockey team improved to 9-1 and more importantly 6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after a 5-1 victory over the College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon at McBride Field. It was also the eighth straight win in the series against the Fighting Scots dating back to the 2013 season.

First-year players Gigi Guenther and Tara Shetty each scored once, while seniors Katelyn Hutchinson and Weezie Foster tallied two goals and one goal, respectively.

The Ladies dominated on the offensive end out-shooting the Fighting Scots 33-9 while holding a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Guenther earned the team's first goal of the day just a little over five minutes in. Navigating along the left side, Guenther sent a shot to the right corner by Wooster keeper Katie Shideler.

Wooster was able to tie up the game, though, at the 23rd minute. Sarah Speroff saved an initial shot by Maeven Barry. According to the officials, however, the ball was trapped underneath Speroff. That resulted in a penalty stroke and Harriet Sudduth scored into the upper part of the cage.

After that though, the visitors found just five more shots with Speroff picking up two more saves.

Hutchinson helped the Ladies retake the lead at 30:45. Newcomer Molly Keen deflected the ball near the front of the cage and Hutchinson did the rest for her sixth goal of the year.

That 2-1 lead remained until the 40th minute when Foster scored off a deflection. That was also her sixth goal of the season.

Hutchinson scored again at 57:39 after a deflection from the Wooster defense was put back in near the left post. Shetty then scored for the second time in as many games with about five minutes left.  The first-year shot from the left side, and after a defensive save by Wooster's Emma Roderick, Shetty put the rebound back in.

Next up for the Ladies is a home date against Denison University on October 3 at 4:30 p.m.
