GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon Ladies forward
Maddie Ladd tallied her first game-winning goal about three minutes into the second overtime on Wednesday to lift the team to a 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference victory against Oberlin College.
The win moved the Ladies closer to a spot in the four-team NCAC Tournament which begins on October 31. Kenyon can clinch a berth with either a win versus Allegheny College on Saturday or Ohio Wesleyan University loss to Denison University.
Kenyon (7-5-3, 3-2-2 NCAC) started fast on this day, tallying a few shots within the game's first five minutes. After slowing down a bit, the Ladies were able to break through at the 16-minute mark.
Olivia Dion was fouled from behind in the Oberlin box which set up a penalty kick for
Maia Emden. The senior followed with a shot past Yeowomen keeper Jordyn Morris to put the Ladies up. It was Emden's third goal of the year.
Exactly 13 minutes later, the Yeowomen evened things up. Madeline Lynam redirected a cross from the left side by Maddi Kimball into the right corner. That was Lynam's second goal this season.
Dion added another on-goal attempt for the Ladies at the 34:12 mark but Morris was able to stop it.
After tallying six shots in the opening half, Kenyon's offensive flow struggled in the second. The home team took just two shots. As for Oberlin, Kimball and Sydnie Savarese had on-target shots; however,
Jillian Countey denied both.
In the final minute of regulation, the Ladies made a push towards the Oberlin net and nearly struck inside of 20 seconds. A cross came to
Samantha Hayes but the ball bounced up into her arm nullifying a chance for a shot.
During the first overtime, Oberlin attempted two shots but found nothing. Then in the second, Hayes set up Ladd's game-winning score as she drove down to the left end line and passed to a waiting Ladd who was right in front of the net.
