WOOSTER, Ohio – A pair of second-half goals by Erica White pushed The College of Wooster past Kenyon College by a 2-1 score on Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal match at John P. Papp Stadium.
With the victory, the Fighting Scots move into Saturday's tourney final with a 12-3-3 record while the Ladies end their season with an 8-6-3 mark.
Unlike the first matchup in which Wooster outshot Kenyon 20-6, the Ladies came ready to play offensively.
In the first half, the third-seeded Ladies had a few good looks. On the team's second shot about seven minutes in,
Samantha Hayes fired from the left side about two yards outside the right post. A few minutes later, Hayes had another opportunity but Wooster blocked her attempt.
Kenyon was able to break through in the 35th minute. A pass was directed near
Fallon Raviol around the top of the 18. Wooster keeper Maddy Ireton went to pick it up but ended up colliding with a teammate. Raviol then scooped up the ball and sent in her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
That 1-0 scored remained until the final eight minutes of the match.
In the second half, the Ladies had two shots on goal from Raviol and senior
Brianna Maggard. Ireton was able to stop both, though, and keep the score at 1-0.
Wooster started cracking at the Kenyon net with less than ten minutes left after a Miura Wiley shot was saved one-handed by
Jillian Countey. A few minutes later, White found the equalizer.
After a Kenyon foul, Krenare Rakoci set up a free kick from the left side. Her pass deflected in front of the net to White who scored.
Then in the 88th minute, White fired a rebounded shot back into the left side to move Wooster ahead.
The Fighting Scots outshot Kenyon in the second half 10-2. Countey notched seven saves in defeat.
