Ladies’ offense puts on show versus Wooster

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies scored their most points in a season opener in the North Coast Athletic Conference era on Wednesday night as they won 87-66 in a league game against The College of Wooster at Tomsich Arena.

Kenyon's 87-point total bested an 86-point effort during a victory against Waynesburg University on November 20, 1998.

Jessica Gerber led the Ladies with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Junior Paige Matijasich was all over the court recording 18 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high six assists. Additionally, sophomore guard Ellie Schaub added a career-high 16 points.

As a team, the Ladies were outstanding on the offensive end shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.

In the first, with the game tied at 4-4, Kenyon hit three-straight long balls to pull ahead 13-9. The last of those shots came from Schaub who led the team with 13 first-quarter points. By the end of the period, Kenyon led 25-17.

Kenyon continued to push forward in the second. A right-wing three from Matijasich gave the home team its first double-digit lead at 34-22 with 6:39 left. Wooster was never able to pull within single digits after that as the Ladies went up as many as 18 points (47-29) after two free throws from Matijasich. By halftime, the scoreboard read 47-31.

After shooting 43 percent from the field and from downtown in the first half, Kenyon actually increased its mark in the second half. From the field, the Ladies shot 46.4 percent and from three-land, hit 60 percent.

Gerber's jumper early in the fourth extended the team's advantage to 80-50, its biggest margin of the game.

Next on the schedule for Kenyon is the Wilmington College Tip-Off Tournament. The Ladies will open with Grove City College on November 17 at 3 p.m.
