Ladies break up for meets versus Oberlin, Oakland

Second-year Emmerson Mirus was a part of three wins on Saturday as the Ladies
were victorious against Oberlin, 134-44. Kenyon also competed well at
Division I Oakland University but fell 187-113.

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies wrapped up their weekend with competition against NCAC member Oberlin College and NCAA Division I Oakland University on Saturday.
 
At James A. Steen Aquatics Center, Emmerson Mirus and Delaney Ambrosen were each a part of three victories as the Ladies defeated the Yeowomen 134-44.
 
Mirus swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay with teammates Sarah Campbell, Sydney Matteson and Katie Rossman. Later, Mirus captured victory in the 50 freestyle (24.87) and 100 butterfly (1:00.41).
 
For Ambrosen, the senior earned her first win in the 200-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 1:59.90. She followed that up in the 500 free with a mark of 5:23.83. To cap off her efforts, she swam a leg in the 200 free relay with teammates Natalie Bresnahan, Kate Alexy and Julia Green. That group posted a time of 1:44.89.
 
There were four more victories for Kenyon during the afternoon. Marysol Arce won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:52.35 while Sophia Kuvan touched first in the 100 free (54.90). Additionally, Rossman won the 100-yard breaststroke and Matteson claimed first in the 100-yard backstroke.
 
Against the Golden Grizzlies, the Ladies fell 187-113, but did perform well with six event victories.
 
Kenyon's first win came in the 200-yard freestyle as Hannah Orbach-Mandel touched the wall in a 'B' cut time of 1:51.81. Kendall Vanderhoof followed with a mark of 1:53.23. Several events later, Orbach-Mandel claimed another victory, this time in the 100 free. Fellow senior Abby Wilson snagged second place in the same race.
 
Sophomore Crile Hart then got into the mix during the 200-yard backstroke. She paced all swimmers with a 'B' cut time of 2:02.99. A couple of races after that, Hart won again, this time in the 200 individual medley with another qualifying time.
 
The Ladies' final individual victory came from Vanderhoof. In the 500 freestyle, the junior touched in 5:05.41.
 
In relay competition, the quartet of Orbach-Mandel, Wilson, Perttula and Celina German notched the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 3:30.41.
 
Other notable finished included Perttula's two second-place spots in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events and Caylee Hamilton's runner-up showing in the 100 butterfly. Additionally, Wilson captured second in the 50 free.
 
In diving competition, Madeline Carlson took second on the 3-meter board with 237.37 points and claimed third on the 1-meter board as she tallied 226.80 points.
 
Kenyon's next meet comes on January 25 when it hosts the University of Cincinnati at 5:30 p.m.
