Ladies get bounce-back win at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Ladies defeated the Oberlin College Yeowomen 4-0 in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) field hockey match-up at Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the Ladies' ninth shutout of the 2019 season, solidified them for next week's NCAC Tournament and gave them a record of 13-3 and 6-1 in the NCAC. Additionally, the victory kept Kenyon in a three-way tie atop the NCAC with Denison University and Ohio Wesleyan University. The loss dropped Oberlin to 3-13 and 0-7.

The Ladies dominated possession throughout the game and out-shot the Yeowomen 29-1, as the hosts were unable to register a shot on goal in the contest.

Kenyon's scoring started just over five minutes into the game when sophomore Sarah Metzmaier put a rebounded shot into the right side of the cage after an initial attempt from junior Olivia O'Connell. First-year Bella Kern added the second Ladies goal of the quarter four minutes later to put Kenyon up 2-0.

Four minutes into the second, junior Tara Shetty scored off an Emma Hyer penalty corner to give the Ladies a 3-0 lead going into the break. Shetty would add to her point tally early in the third as she assisted Metzmaier with a cross from the middle. That turned out to be the final goal of the match.

The defense for the Ladies kept the scoring area clean for both goalies, with Payton Doan and Suzy Deems in net during the first and second halves, respectively. Kenyon will close its regular season with a 12 p.m. home contest against The College of Wooster on Saturday. It will be Senior Day for the program.
