Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladd’s goal lifts Ladies over Tigers

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon women's soccer team remained unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday as the Ladies defeated Wittenberg University 1-0 at Mavec Field. Kenyon evened its record at 5-5 and moved its conference mark to 2-0.

In the first half, there were not many scoring chances for the two teams despite 12 combined shots. Wittenberg's Kaitlyn Krieg had the visitor's best look in the 12th minute, however, her shot from the left post was denied by Jillian Countey.

The Ladies nearly struck twice in the 13th and 33rd minutes. A Caroline McNeer corner was headed and then headed again by Kiele Anderson. Tigers' senior Kelly Corbin stopped her flick from in front of the next, though.  Twenty minutes later, Olivia Carriero shot from the right side and a diving save by Corbin at the left post kept the scoreboard at 0-0.

After the break, Kenyon buckled down on the defensive end, and its offense came through.

In the 67th minute, Ellen Harnsberger passed to an open Maddie Ladd near the left post and Ladd shot to the lower-right corner. It was her second-straight game-winning goal.

For the Ladies' defense in the second half, it allowed two, soft on-target looks to Wittenberg. Countey, who finished with four saves, stopped both those shots from Grace Nation and Brooke Peters.

Next on the schedule for Kenyon is an NCAC home contest on October 12 against Denison University at 1 p.m.
