GAMBIER, Ohio -- A 4-0 run to open the contest set the tone Saturday as the Kenyon College Ladies defeated the Allegheny College Gators 18-6 in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) women's lacrosse matchup at McBride Field.
The Ladies collected their seventh consecutive win and the second of their in-conference schedule, giving them a record of 8-2 and 2-0 in the NCAC. On the other side of the field, the Gators slid to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in NCAC play.
The Ladies were led by senior
Cassie Hudson-Heck's five-goal performance, while fellow senior
Lucy Somers, junior
Avery Morgan and first-year
Maya Fair each fired in three goals.
As a unit, the Ladies outshot the Gators 39-12 and won the turnover battle 31-20. The turnover count was on the high side for both teams, as the game played out in a constant rain.
The Ladies scored the first four goals of the game before an Evi Maligese goal put the Gators on the board. Hudson-Heck scored her second and third goals of the contest in the following moments and the Ladies took a 10-3 lead into halftime.
The second half was more of the same for the Ladies as they outscored the Gators 8-3 while making a bevy of substitutions throughout the half.
Defensively, the Ladies allowed only 12 shots in the game. First-year
Casey Leach and junior
Sarah Griswold, who collected four ground balls in the contest, led the defensive unit. They were back by senior goalie
Carina Barnes, who made four saves.
Hudson-Heck's five-goal output gave her 202 career points. That total is fifth best all-time in program history.
