GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Kenyon women's lacrosse team won for the 12th straight time on Saturday as it defeated DePauw University 13-5 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at Reavis Stadium. Kenyon improved to 13-2 and 6-0 in the conference for the first time in the NCAC era.
Lucy Somers tallied a game-high six points on four goals and two helpers while first-year
Maya Fair contributed four goals. Senior
Cassie Hudson-Heck added three goals, four ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers.
Kenyon's defense was superb in the first half, as it virtually did not allow DePauw to cross into Ladies territory. The home squad was a mere 4-for-17 in clear opportunities and it turned the ball over 21 times.
That helped the Ladies attain a 23-3 shots advantage on the offensive end. The game's first seven goals went in favor of Kenyon as Somers, Fair and Hudson-Heck each scored multiple times.
By halftime, the Ladies led 8-1.
Second-half action was fairly even as Kenyon held a slight advantage in scoring, 5-4. Fair and Somers paced the Kenyon attack with a pair of goals each. In the final half-hour, the Ladies went up as many as nine (11-2) following a Fair goal at the 16:54 mark.
For the Tigers, Grace Clarke led her team with a trio of goals.
Kenyon ended up with a massive 29-14 ground-balls advantage by game's end while in goal,
Carina Barnes saved six shots.
Next on the schedule for the Ladies is a home showdown with The College of Wooster on April 24 at 5 p.m. The Fighting Scots have won the last five meetings against Kenyon dating back to the 2014 season.
