CLEVELAND – In the final dual meet of its 2019-20 season, the Kenyon College Ladies swimming and diving team escaped Cleveland State University with a 114-113 win over the host Vikings on Saturday morning. The victory finalized the Ladies' record at 6-4.
Juniors
Caylee Hamilton and
Crile Hart powered the Ladies, both racking up wins in three events. Hamilton won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.65, finishing just ahead of teammate
Emmie Mirus, who took second place in 23.86. Later, Hamilton was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 51.67. Both Hamilton's times were season-bests and cleared NCAA 'B' cuts.
Between those two wins, Hart claimed first place in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:00.01, a time that was six seconds quicker than the second-place finisher from Cleveland State. Three events later, Hart won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.01.
Hamilton and Hart also found themselves competing with winning relay teams. At the start of the meet, Hamilton joined Mirus,
Summer Otazu and
Makena Markert to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:42.16. At the end of the meet, Hart swam with Mirus,
Ania Axas and
Alexandra White to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:27.55.
The Ladies had two other individual event wins and those came from Axas, a freshman, and
Andrea Perttula, a sophomore. Axas was first in the 200-yard butterfly and Perttula was fastest in the 200-yard breaststroke. Their respective times of 2:03.78 and 2:18.97 were season-bests and cleared NCAA 'B' cuts.
The Ladies now turn their attention to the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, a four-day event that begins Wednesday, February 12 at Denison University.
