LOS ANGELES, Ca. –
Avery Morgan's goal in overtime capped an exciting 19-18 victory for the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team on Monday against Occidental College. The Ladies improved their record to 4-2 with the win.
Morgan scored a season-high seven goals to lead the Ladies, six of which came in the second half and overtime session.
Newcomer
Tatumn Eccleston dished out four assists to bump her season total to 16. That currently ranks in the top eight in the country. Additionally, senior
Maggie Grabowski registered three goals, an assist and seven draw controls.
Kenyon got to a 5-1 lead about 12 minutes into the game after first-year
Caroline O'Neil assisted on a goal to Grabowski. The Tigers responded with a 7-1 stretch.
Occidental's Marie Whitmore scored four of those goals and at the 4:44 mark, the Tigers led 8-6. By halftime, the hosts led 10-9 after Grabowski and O'Neil inched the Ladies closer with two scores in the final 1:46.
In the second half, both teams gave fans a great performance. There were eight ties and five lead changes.
The Tigers led 18-17 with under a minute left before the Ladies tied it.
Brett Bearrows retrieved a ground ball following a missed Occidental shot. Kenyon then took a timeout to set up its offense. After a quick break, Morgan tied the game at 18 with just 12 seconds left.
Once in overtime, Morgan scored the game-winner about 1:25 into the extra session.
Kenyon will have a few days off but will return to action on March 14 at home against Centre College at 3:30 p.m.
