Gaese's golden goal runs Lords' win streak to 10

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana -- After a thrilling double overtime win at home over Ohio Wesleyan, the No. 22 ranked Kenyon College men's soccer team defeated Wabash College in double overtime 2-1.

Although the Lords outshot the Little Giants through the first 30 minutes of the first half, Wabash cracked the scoreboard first. On a corner kick in the 37th minute, the Kenyon defense looked to clear the ball. After a loose ball, Coledon Johnson shot off the volley. Johnson's shot went through the crowded penalty box and past Kenyon goalkeeper Jack Pedreschi. The Little Giant goal sent the teams into halftime with a 1-0 scoreline.

15 minutes into the second half, a Wabash foul gave Kenyon a free kick. The ensuing Lords kick went to the back post. Sebastian Gaese positioned himself perfectly to keep the ball in as he headed it across goal. The header found Johan Johannsson who easily tied the game at one. Looking to put his team ahead in the closing minutes, Gerardo Martinez's shot went over the crossbar. After 90 minutes, the two teams played to a 1-1 deadlock.

In the opening 90 seconds of the first overtime, the Lords came out aggressive. On a crossing pass from outside the box, the Lords' game winner went wide off the head of Alem Duratovic. A few minutes later, Scott Upton saw his shot from 20 yards out saved by Wabash goalkeeper Michael Bertram.  After the first overtime period, the score remained tied.

In the final 10 minute period, the Lords wasted no time ending the game. After another save on a Lords' shot, Gerardo Martinez took the corner kick. Martinez's in-swinging ball found Sebastian Gaese. The header bounced past the Little Giant back line, ending the game.

The Lords look to keep their win streak alive on Tuesday against The College of Wooster at Mavec Field.
