Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Josh Ducheneaux

Lords remain unbeaten in conference play

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's soccer team went on the road to defeat conference-rival Denison University, 2-0. The Lords improved to 8-1-1 on the year and 3-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Lords continued to come out and apply pressure during the opening minutes of the game. While Kenyon applied pressure, the defense stayed strong, leading to attacking chances. The Lords cashed in on a shot from Aidan Burns in the 16th minute. Burns' snuck his shot from 20 yards past Denison goalkeeper Dylan Brown. The Big Red saw one of their best chances in the first half sail over the crossbar after Kenyon conceded a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. The Lords tacked on to their one goal advantage in the remaining 35 seconds when Adam Silberg juked his defender and ripped a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box. The low shot remained untouched as it found the back side of the net, doubling the Lords' lead. As the remaining seconds went down, the Lords found themselves ahead 2-0 at halftime.

Once the second half started, both teams picked up their intensity to find the back of the net. Gerardo Martinez gained control of a loose ball and ripped a shot, but the Lords saw it go wide right. With under 30 minutes remaining in the game, Joey Martens dribbled past a couple Denison defenders and into the box before he sent a shot toward goal. Again, Kenyon watched as his opportunity went wide right. Denison looked to cut into the Kenyon lead in the 66th minute after a free kick deflected down onto the foot of a Big Red player. The Lords blocked the ensuing shot, preserving the two goal advantage. As the clock went under 15 minutes to go, Denison's Lorenz Hoover found space but sent his contested shot wide. Kenyon's final scoring chance came with less than four minutes to go when Sam Carson found space inside the box. Carson's cross toward the front of the goal couldn't find a Lords player and went out of bounds.

The Lords' win sets up a battle with Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday for a spot atop the NCAC standings.
