GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College (1-3, 1-3 NCAC) scored seven of the game's first nine goals en route to a 14-13 win over Allegheny College (3-5, 1-3 NCAC) on Saturday in a women's lacrosse game at the Field at Benson Bowl.
Newcomer
Kate Lengel tied for the game-high with five points on four goals and one assist while
Alex Tiatia and
Maya Fair each scored multiple goals. Sophomore
Emma Hutchison also contributed a pair of goals while recording a career-high eight draw controls.
In goal,
Delaney Gallagher gave a superb performance recording a career-high 16 saves.
The Ladies and Gators were knotted up at 1-1 before a 5-0 spurt for Kenyon gave it an early, comfortable advantage.
Lengel started the stretch with a pair of scores within a minute of each other. Up 3-1, Fair, Tiatia and senior
Julia Mahoney scored the next three to put the purple and white up five, 6-1.
Allegheny responded, though, to bring its deficit to one on a couple of occasions. The first was at 4:40 when Ashley Amato scored unassisted to bring the scoreboard tally to 7-6. After halftime, the Gators made it 10-9 on another unassisted goal, this one from Liz Dolan.
Holding onto that one-goal lead about five minutes into the second stanza, the Ladies really complimented each other on both ends of the field after that.
Over the next 14 minutes of action, Gallagher came up with five saves and Kenyon's offense scored four straight. At the 23:22 mark, Lengel scored on a free-position shot before Fair's tally at 11:09 boosted the Ladies' lead to 14-9.
Allegheny did put pressure on Kenyon after that by scoring four in a row. However, three more saves for Gallagher and a few draw-control wins from Hutchison and
Brett Bearrows preserved the Kenyon win in the final minutes of the contest.
The win ends Kenyon's regular season and puts it in a tie for second in the NCAC East Division.
