Ladies return home to rout Eagles

RESULTS

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Returning to competition in the Steen Aquatic Center for the first time in the new calendar year, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team was in full control Friday night while whipping up a 201-41 victory over the Ashland University Eagles.

Friday's slate included 11 swimming events and two diving events. Kenyon swept them all, with nine different swimmers accounting for the nine individual event wins.

Olivia Smith, Jennah Fadely, Emmie Mirus and Sydney Geboy got the evening started for Kenyon by winning the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:48.64.

After that, the Ladies rattled off four more wins before heading into a quick break. Those four wins came from Kira Bowling with a time of 10:38.71 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, Ania Axas with a time of 1:57.16 in the 200-yard freestyle, Nikola Kovacova with a time of 24.27 in the 50-yard freestyle and Anna Clare Fleenor with a time of 2:11.37 in the 200-yard individual medley.

When the teams returned from the break, the Ladies posted four more wins. Celia Ford started out that quartet by taking the 100-yard butterfly in 59.04. Next up, Crile Hart claimed first place in the 100-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 52.84. Kate Alexy and Jordan Herrera kept the streak alive. Alexy won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.29 and then Herrera finished first in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:16.74.

After another brief break, the Kenyon women finished off the meet with two more event wins. Sydney Buchman was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.40 and the Ladies' 400-yard freestyle relay team capped off the night with a winning time of 3:39.32. That relay consisted of Alexy, Mirus, Lauren Barrabee and Lucy Patterson.

The two diving events were held simultaneously with the swim events. As the Ladies were sweeping the swim events, Katarina Ilic completed an individual sweep of the diving events. The Kenyon sophomore won the 1-meter competition with a score of 223.95 and then won the 3-meter competition with a score of 221.25.

The Ladies, now owners of a 3-0 dual meet record, will next compete on Saturday, January 22, when they host both Case Western Reserve University and Ohio Northern University. That meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
