White leads way in Kenyon win over Denison

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Kenyon College senior Alexandra White was a part of four event wins Saturday and played a huge role in the Owls' 183-117 victory over rival Denison University in women's swimming and diving action on Saturday morning in the Lowry Center.

Individually, White won the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA 'B' cut of 23.53, which also checked in as a top-three time among all NCAA Division III swimmers this season. Shortly after that, she got back in the water and won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.28.

White's other wins were chalked up in relay competition. At the start of the meet, she swam the anchor on the Owls' 200-yard medley relay team that turned in a winning time of 1:42.14, which cleared the NCAA 'B' cut. Joining her on that relay were Olivia Smith, Jennah Fadely and Celia Ford. At the end of the meet, White anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 1:34.61 for another 'B' cut. Swimming with White on that relay were Smith, Gwenyth Eisenbeis and Ella Campbell.

Smith added to Kenyon's 'B' cut count by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 56.05, which, so far this season, is a top-three mark in NCAA Division III.

Fadely also had a big day, as she swept the breaststroke events with some impressive times. She won the 100 in 1:02.48 and then took the 200 in 2:18.57. Both of those times were under the 'B' cut and both went down as the fastest in NCAA Division III this season.

Other event winners for Kenyon included Gabrielle Wei, Ania Axas, and Ford. Wei won both the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley with respective times of 1:54.83 and 4:29.97. Axas was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.93 and Ford tacked on a win in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 56.91. Both Axas' and Ford's times checked in as top-three in NCAA Division III, as did Wei's time in the 400 IM.

In diving competition, junior Katarina Ilic pulled off a sweep. She topped her teammates, as well as four Denison divers, to win the one-meter with a final score of 235.35. On the three-meter, she tallied a 238.20 to come out on top.

The Owls now face a ten-day break before their next competition. They'll be back in action on November 17, when they host the start of the three-day TPSC Invitational.
