CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team secured first-place finishes in 13 of 16 events to clinch a 190-110 victory over Case Western Reserve University. The win over the Spartans moved the Owls to a 7-1 record with one dual left before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
Kenyon took control of the dual from the onset when the quartet of Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault, Jennah Fadely, Celia Ford, and Ella Campbell led the team to a 200-yard medley relay win with a time of 1:44.89, clearing an NCAA 'B' cut.
The Owls bookended the meet with relay crowns as Alexandra White, Olivia Smith, Sydney Geboy, and Gwen Eisenbeis took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:34.55, another 'B' cut. The relay team closed the dual in style, setting a new pool record at CWRU's Veale Natatorium. White's opening leg set the tone as the senior swam her leg in 23.04 seconds, a pool record that clears the 'B' cut threshold for the 50-yard freestyle.
Between the relay wins, 11 Owls were winners in individual events. Kenyon swept the backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly races while claiming all but one freestyle event.
The Owls' best freestyle finish came from Ella Campbell, who won the 50-yard freestyle and cleared a 'B' cut after swimming the sprint in 23.58 seconds. The time was a personal best for the senior and was one of three pool records broken by the Owls.
Kenyon also sat atop the 200-, 500-, and 1000- yard freestyle rankings, where Alexandra White (200-yard, 1:54.15), Kira Bowling (500-yard, 5:10.60), and Sarah Hoffman (1000-yard, 10:30.51) came out on top.
Torrecillas-Jouault, a first-year, added to her relay title by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 57.96 seconds. Caleigh Wukitch, a junior, took first in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:06.78.Â
In the breaststroke contests, junior Sydney McCallie and first-year Jean Cook won the 100- and 200- yard races, respectively, recording respective times of 1:07.39 and 2:27.91.
Kenyon finished first and second at both butterfly distances, with Eisenbeis, a first-year, winning the 100-yard iteration with a time of 57.99 and Ford, a sophomore, winning the 200-yard event with a 2:08.08. Junior Sydney Buchman finished as the runner-up in each race.
Sophomore Gabrielle Wei led the way in the final individual event, swimming a 2:06.35 to top the 200-yard individual medley as Kenyon finished 1-2-3-4.
Katarina Ilic, a junior, racked up some points on the diving board for the Owls, finishing third at both the one- and three-meter heights. From one meter up, Ilic scored 245.95 before notching a total of 252.90 in the three-meter dive.
The last dual on Kenyon's schedule is slated for Friday, Jan. 27, when the Owls host the NCAA Division I Miami (OH) University Redhawks. The contest is set for a 3 p.m. start, and Kenyon will celebrate Senior Day to close the regular season.
