Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kenyon offense blanked by DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- In a key North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) battle on the road at DePauw University, the Kenyon College women's soccer team struggled to break through the Tigers' defense and wound up suffering a 1-0 defeat.

The setback dropped Kenyon to 1-3-1 in conference play, while DePauw jumped to 2-1-2. With just two games left in the regular season, the Owls are currently tied for seventh place with four points in the NCAC standings. DePauw is tied for second with eight points.

In terms of offense, the host Tigers took the early advantage Saturday, outshooting Kenyon 8-2 over the first 45 minutes of play. The Tigers, however, didn't have anything to show for it. Only two of their eight shots were on target and Kenyon goalkeeper Ariel Kite saved them both.

The second half went pretty much the same as the first for Kenyon, which managed just two more shots, giving the Owls four for the game, with one on goal.

The scoreless deadlock held up for nearly the entire game, but, with 2:37 left on the clock, DePauw managed to break through. An assist from Annalise Grammel found Sophia Patrey, who booted the ball into the upper left corner of the Kenoyn net.

That score was just one of three shots on goal and 12 shots, overall, for the Tigers.

If Kenyon has any hopes of making the four-team postseason conference tournament it will have to win its next two games and get help from other NCAC results. Fortunately, both those games left on the schedule will be at home for the Owls, who host The College of Wooster (2-2-1 NCAC) on Wednesday and then Oberlin College (1-2-1) on Saturday.
