Owls swat Yellow Jackets, secure seventh straight win

BEREA, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team came out on fire on the road against Baldwin Wallace University (2-6), setting the stage for the Owls' seventh straight victory. Kenyon cruised to a 17-8 win to maintain their flawless 7-0 record.

Kenyon controlled the game from the onset, scoring 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter. Kate Lengel put the Owls on the board first off an assist from Caroline O'Neil, the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week, and the squad never looked back.

Kenyon outshot Baldwin Wallace 14-0 in the opening period. Seven BWU turnovers contributed to the additional looks, helping the Owls open up a lead they would not relinquish. Nine Owls combined for the team's first 10 goals as Lengel was the first to reach two scores.

The junior added a third goal in the second quarter, helping Kenyon increase their advantage to 14-0. Lengel's three goals were the high-water mark of the game, while a quartet of Owls scored two goals apiece: Mallory Brophy, Lily Mason, O'Neil, and Ashley Quinn. Tatumn Eccleston, who has dished out an assist in every game this season, bumped her season total to 17 with four dimes against the Yellow Jackets.

Nola Garand picked up win number seven in goal after racking up two saves and allowing just two goals in two quarters of action. Delaney Gallagher closed out the win in the second half, securing three saves over her 30 minutes in goal.

Despite the early onslaught, Baldwin Wallace managed to bounce back and build some momentum with a solid finish. With Kenyon taking their foot off the pedal, the Yellow Jackets finished the game on an 8-2 run. BWU scored two goals in the second and third quarters before four in the fourth. The Owls did not let the outcome come into doubt, however, as they added a score in the third period and two more in the final frame.

Up next, the unbeaten Owls have their toughest test on deck. Kenyon heads to Chicago, Illinois, to take on the No. 14-ranked University of Chicago (5-1). The contest is scheduled to start at noon Central Standard Time (1 p.m. EST) on Sunday, March 26.
