Owls roll to 8-1 win over Vixens

STOW, Ohio -- Playing its first match in Ohio following a run of spring-break matches in Florida, the Kenyon College women's tennis team delivered an 8-1 victory Sunday morning over the Vixens of Sweet Briar College. The match was played on neutral courts at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.

The win improved Kenyon, ranked at No. 30 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll, to 8-3. The loss dropped the Vixens to 11-6.

Kenyon earned two wins in the three doubles matches, falling only at No. 1. The Owls' No. 2 pairing of Allaire Berl and Shadia Amado Aguad posted an 8-3 win, while the team's No. 3 combo of Lalasa Nagireddy and Natalie Connelly chalked up an 8-2 victory.

Following those results, the Owls went on to sweep singles play. Piggybacking off her doubles win, Berl put together a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Allison Wandling at No. 2 singles. That outcome was backed by a win at No. 1 from Eleni Lazaridou. She posted a quick 6-0, 6-1 score against Ruth de Souza.

Like Berl, Amado Aguad and Nagireddy were double-winners for Kenyon. Amado Aguad topped Nikhita Simhambhatla at No. 4 by a 6-3, 6-1 count and Nagireddy polished off Isabela Guilarte at No. 5 by a 6-7 (7-2), 6-0, 1-0 (10-2) final.

Kenyon's other two singles wins came from Eleni Dakos at No. 3 and from Catriona MacIntosh at No. 6.

The Owls now have a few days away from competition and then will host three teams over an upcoming busy weekend. That list of weekend opponents includes University of Mary Washington, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Wittenberg University.
